SY 06-07 1st Sem Recap: CHN 46 - MASS MEDIA IN CHINA (T-TH 300-430)

This is one of the classes that i will sorely miss come next semester. Media in China taught me so much about Mainland China's media culture and behavior - from how Chinese journalism began under Liang QiChao to the student revolt in Tiananmen Square in 1989.

One of the most important things I learned from this class is: There is no chance in hell that I would want to work as a journalist in China. NO EFFIN WAY!!! I can'r even imagine HOW they (the Chinese journalists) survive there, with the censorship and all. Please.

Anyway, my big thanks to Rosa Ladrido for leading the way in our class' learning. Although we may only be a humble six in the class, I feel that what you've imparted to us will really leave a mark in our lives.

From our shake-drinking session...

to our personal insights regarding Chinese newspapers...

to our individual reports based on our tissue-paper-like readings... (Thanks to Melo)

to our sharing of Chinese artifacts... (courtesy of Mikael)

And of course, to our last day... With all the food...

and picture-taking...

to the final farewell...

(Second from left) Louella, Ilene, Mikael, Paterno, Melo, and of course (seated), Rosa Ladrido, thank you all for a wonderful sem!

Ana Corina's 19th Birthday!

12 October 2006

It all started as a quiet and normal day at the pubroom...

yessir... walang nakahalata ng mga dapat mangyari... or so we thought... (ehem, Lesley..)

While waiting for Ana to return to the pub from an interview, everyone was relaxed. In Paterno's case, he was a bit too comfy in Mikko's lap.

Ayan! bumalik na ang Corina! haha! Happy birthday! Eto ang cake!

At ang regalo!

Ang Paterno naman, pa-sungit effect pa!

Pero hindi rin mapigil ang ngiti!

Ops, mukhang I'm not wanted in their moment of kalandian! Better back off for now...

Meanwhile, Kar, Eddie, Mikko, and Austin are cooly hanging out at the lobby.

Pagbalik sa loob, nako! Tuloy pa rin ang kalandian! Yikes!

Ayaaan, a much better picture than a while ago.
Meanwhile, mukhang may binubunyag na sikreto si Eddie sa laptop niya! ano kaya ito???
At nakinuod na rin ang lahat sa isang inspiring flash video that left all of us in tears, inside siyempre. Ang arte naman umiyak na lang bigla, diba?

Oh yes, (belated) happy birthday again, Ana!

GOODBYE FOR I HAVE FOUND A NEW HOME

Barely three months into my photoblog here at blogspot, I am moving out. Blogger's cool and all, but i feel that my new photoblog hosting site is more suited to my needs (parang drama pag may nahanap na bagong GF, diba?). Anyway, this blog won't fold up just like that. In place of my "work photos," I will be posting block A/other peeps' pics here! Not just one pic per post, but a series of pics! Basically, this site will be my sort-of-Multiply.com webpage. Yehey!

Oh yes, my new and improved photoblog is at http://hubpacheco.aminus3.com
I've republished the photos i've posted here.

IT'S TIME, IT'S TIME, IT'S STUDYING TIME!

Bad timing is an understatement when I caught a fever yesterday, the weekend before Finals week (bakit naka-capitalize? parang NBA Finals kasi eh. This week is all or nothing!). Nevertheless, this predicament will only strengthen my resolve, my resolve to at least not fail miserably in all my final exams/requirements!

AN OLD FACE OF R. HIDALGO?

I passed by R. Hidalgo Street yesterday and chanced upon the three-day inagural celebration of the newly renovated photography district of Manila. I was just going to pass by and get my prints but I stopped to watch to festivities.

My cap is off to John Chua for taking the inititative to revitalize the heartland of Philippine photography. But the road concretizations (?) and potted plants aside, Quiapo will always be Quiapo. According to Chua's plans, sidewalk vendors will be completely relocated to a nearby area and those vendors who are willing can become assistants to the local photographers frequenting Hidalgo.

Lo and behold, there still are vendors plying their wares along Hidalgo (although they are fewer now) and most of them converged along Plaza Miranda, which makes walking along Quiapo Church very uncomfortable. You can say whatever you want, plan whatever you want but you can't easily brush off sidewalk vendors like they were dust on your kitchen floor.

Problems like sidewalk vendors are very difficult to fix. It's like an endless cycle.

COUNTING ON PATIENCE

Sabi ng mga tao na darating din (kung anuman/sino man 'yun) ang araw ko. Sa lagay na ito, mukhang napakatagal pang panahon ang iintayin ko.

ANG KABALINTUNAAN

I know that we Filipinos are famous (or infamous) for our sometimes unintentionally funny/misleading signs, but this one really takes the cake.

ESEP, ESEP

More than food, clothing, and shelter, the lack of an Internet connection days ago from typhoon "Milenyo" "crippled" lot of people I know. No Yahoo Messenger, no e-mails, no Friendster, no googling, no blogging - I guess this is the part when an old-timer would chime in and say, "Iba na talaga ang panahon ngayon."
